Just looking into getting a HTPC funded by the parents :D BUt it needs to be as cheap as possible pretty much, playing on probably a 50" 1080p Plasma panel. Do have access to the MM, used parts are fine. Just need it as cheap as possible and to be able to play 1080p video.

Cheers

If you've got MM access I would just keep an eye there to be honest. If you're lucky you'll be able to pick up a full system or buy it in stages as the stuff becomes available.

Perhaps stick a thread up in the 'Wanted' section?

Why not spend £30 on a Chromecast and stream your content from your existing PC using Plex / XBMC etc?

Already have one, but thinking of returning it as it is quite laggy when playing back movies through plex. Should it be?

I have a couple of systems using a Gigabyte E350N(Or newest version) E-350D Dual core AMD CPU(Sorta AMDs version of the Atom) and built in AMD 6310 GPU. I run them with 2Gb of memory with openelec and have not had a single problem. They run 720/1080p streamed from my server with no problems or dropped frames. You should be able to get a mobo/stick of memory for about £50 new. I would however try and price in a cheap SSD as it makes skins like Aeon Nox a lot slicker.

droidbox running xbmc. Don't have one but have seen the M6 in the flesh and it is a really nice piece of kit (not sure if it is the best one though). They are about £100 but you will also need to think about storage
