Building a HTPC. Have an ATX case in mind, just need to spec out the rest of the system.
Currently have 6 hard drives, and want to add a SSD boot drive plus a bluray drive so need 8 SATA ports.

Hopefully i wont need it, but a motherboard with RAID5 capabilities. just in case.

Appreciate the help. Thank You.

Asus Maximus VI GENE MATX (just got one for my htpc) It does have 8 sata ports, however I bought a raid card to use as to keep the raid off board.

Think seriously about whether you want 6 mechanical hard drives spinning away in your living room whilst watching TV or a movie!

I had a single mechanical drive in my HTPC, and I could hear it across the room!

This. I have 4 mechanical drives in my desktop and they make a ridiculous amount of noise on startup.

Its not under the TV, its in a side cupboard so that's not a worry.

Been in the same setup for a while, just the motherboard died and so am using it as an excuse to upgrade.

I got an intel rs2sg244 for £40. Tad overkill, but was a bargin.

As for drives being loud while watching a movie, can't say I've had that issue. My last system had 5x 5900rpm drives in it. Couldn't hear them while the tv was on. Room had to be very quiet to hear them. Screws had rubber mounts to help vibration.

New system has 3x 4TB drives, can expand to 6 if needed. These new drives at 5900rpm NAS edition.
