HTPC to amp (Sound card or standalone DAC?)

Hi guys,

I've got an HTPC that is, at the moment, hooked up to my amp using the onboard sound on the motherboard. I'm looking for something a bit better in the sound department :).

In terms of sources, I'll be playing back FLACs for music and HD videos (generally DTS soundtrack or similar).

The HTPC has a Gigabyte MA78GM-S2H motherboard. I have both PCI and PCI-E slots free (albeit using a riser card), and I also have SPDIF onboard.

The amp is a Linn Majik, and it is connected to two speakers (so surround sound is not relevant). I don't know what the speakers are off the top of my head, but they are roughly five years old and pretty decent. I can go and find out, if it's important.

I'm therefore either looking for a sound card or a standalone DAC to get my HTPC properly hooked up to the amp. Budget is not a huge issue, but obviously no point in throwing away money for minimal benefit; I'd be surprised if anyone could justify over £200.

So, suggestions? Thanks :)
