HTPC type applications for Linux?

I'm giving Ubuntu a go at the minute. My aim is to build a home theatre pc whose main job will be hopefully playing dvd's, mp3's etc. I also want to use that ffdshow? thing to upscale dvd's to the res of my future lcd TV. Does anyone have links to suitable software, and can you get that ffd thing for linux?

Hi, I use KnoppMyth and have been very happy with it. If you are feeling braver, choose your destro and download the debs from MythTV and compile it.
