HTPC Upgrade advice

So I have an aging E6600 based HTPC sitting under my TV which I would quite like to upgrade to be slightly more up to date. It is not used for gaming at all, just media playback using PlextHT. I have considered using a dedicated media player device, in fact I do have a NowTV box with Plex side loaded on to it, but (a) I watch a lot of media with soft subtitles which I've had issues with on anything but the fat Plex clients and (b) my Plex server is aging as well and struggles with transcoding at times. I would like any new solution to output video/audio over HDMI like the existing system does at the moment.

I would like to reuse the case (Silverstone LC16M), SATA DVDRW, and if possible the PSU (Enermax 500W Modular). I'll be picking up a cheap 120GB SSD for the system drive and I'll reuse the Win7 Retail license on the new system.

So I think, assuming the above is ok, I should just need CPU, MB and Memory. The case will take a normal ATX board.

Suggestions?

If you want to do it cheaply, you could get away with an i3 and 4gb RAM for about £185. Might as well get an ITX case as well while you're at it.
