Hi All

My newly built Openelec HTPC is proving problematic.

The specification is:

AMD Athlon II 3800 dual core CPU
4GB RAM
Gigabyte GA-M770 UD3 motherboard
ATI Radeon HD4800 Display card
30GB SSD HDD - Openelec
2TB HDD - Media / Data drive
Philips DH-16AAS DVD RW
Silverstone GD09 HTPC case
OCZ Technology OCZ500SXS2 Power SUpply
OpenELEC 5.0.5 (x86_64)

I followed advice from this forum and bought a new power supply which has not arrived yet so I am still using the original. The new one is:

Now onto the problem.

When I play movies from DVD, streamed via the Youtube app or from a locally stored .AVI / .MPEG / .MP3 etc the video playback is super fast. A full movie plays through in about five minutes.

I have tried this with Kodibuntu and the problem remains. I have also tried this by installing the Openelec OS onto a standard mechanical HDD and a USB 2.0 pendrive and the video still plays super fast.

The BIOS seems to be set ok. The CPU runs at 100% when this happens but when not playing a video the CPU drops to 3% average.

I'm stumped.

Any ideas ladies and gents?

I have posted the issue on both the Openelec and Kodi Linux forums and I'm not getting any where really. I thought I'd come over here and talk to the hardware guru's at OC.

:-)

P.S. I'm 100% sure it's not a configuration within Openelec as the fault occurs when Kodibuntu is installed.

I have XBMC / Kodi installed on an old Xbox and an Acer Revo and it works fine. Always has.

I'm convinced it's a hardware issue.

I just tested the HTPC running at 640x480 instead of the default 1024x768. The video plays back fine.

So, it must be a hardware issue, or at least related to the display card. Maybe the Openelec drivers are not suitable for the ATI HD4800.

Ok, so, decision made.

I want to replace the HD4800 display card and the Gigabyte GA-MA770 motherboard with a new Intel based motherboard which will take my spare Intel Core i3-2128 3.30Ghz dual core possessor.

The new motherboard must have USB 3.0 and HDMI on board. I have been told that an Nvidia solution would be best.

Can you suggest a suitable motherboard for less than £60 including delivery.

Thanks

That 2nd motherboard is incompatible with your existing i3 as they're different sockets (1155 vs 1150).

Try it with the onboard graphics before spending more money on a replacement GPU.
