HTPC - why is mine pants?

No he has a widescreen 'HD Ready' plasma, which like pretty much all widescreen HD Ready plasma TVs has a resolution of 1024x768, with non standard shaped pixels.

He has a plasma TV - many of which have 1024x768 panels (non-square pixels).

The TV itself will scale accordingly.

Finally people who have the info :)

The issue isn't resolution it's refresh rates, ITV HD having no sound in MCE, lack of mkv support in MCE (fixed but took a whole night of google to sort)

I think I'm going to look into another ps3 and the Bush Freesat HD box, it's only £67 lol. I just want summit that works for the football.

I also am struggling to find a remote for MCE, where did the Microsoft remotes go? I am using my Bluetooth PS3 remote on the HTPC and it isn't ideal.

Mediaportal TV is a minefield, I probably could get it working but have simply lost interest now.

sorry not sure what you mean by register the file? did you install shark007 under an admin account then try and associate the MKV with media player (right click -> open with)?

i use one of these cyberlink remotes and it does all the basic stuff in mce and everything in arcsoft totalmedia 3 and power dvd.
the only annoying thing i find is that in media center the fast forward and rewind dont work properly and instead jump forward and back 30 secs or so instead of changing forward or reverse speed but in the software dvd players it works fine

just google cyberlink remote and you'll find them for less than a tenner so may be worth you giving it a try to see if you can use it

I dunno, I didn't muck about with it tbh. Codec packs usually lead to more problems than they solve so I promptly deleted it.

ty, I have seen them I may order one and see how I get on, my ps3 remote doesn't work in TMT3 so thats half the troubles!

I have had the most success with GB-PVR, so I think I will stick with that. Would you mind downloading GB-PVR and see if the remote works in it?

i just installed gb pvr and have tried playing some films on it with the remote and it seems to work the same as media center, all the basic functions work and the fast forward/rewind in 10 second stages and chapter forward and back go forward 1 min and back 30 seconds. volume works as does the navigation keys and the back key.
i cant test the tv functions as i dont have a tuner card i'm afraid, but it seems to do everything the same as in my media center.
hope this helps

I've been using MediaPortal + the Community codec Pack for a few years now with no problems at all.

Add in the plugins for the movies and tv series and it auto downloads all the information, quality. That plus the logiitech remote and everythings simple.

Not had a single problem with it not playing anything so far.

Got XBMC on the Mac book though and that works fine although I prefer media portal on the PC.
