Firstly Merry Christmas,

My new HTPC is having some teething problems
Everything is fine upto the point that i try to play DVD etc [it just hangs] All the software ive tried using gives the same message "Not responding ...."

System is :

CPU Type Intel Pentium 4, 2018 MHz (20 x 101)

Motherboard Name Asus P4S8L (2 PCI, 2 DDR DIMM, Audio, Video, LAN, IEEE-1394)

Video Adapter NVIDIA GeForce 6200 (256 MB)

Thanks to anyone who has time to help and once again Merry Christmas :)

Agreed with the above, sounds like a bad IDE cable or bad drive if everything else works. The computer is being confused by a bad signal being sent from the drive and it sounds like its sending into some continuous loop.

Will try a new cable but the system also hangs when trying to burn a TS file.Could this be down to the cable too?

have you got a spare drive lying around? if so try put that in in place and then you will be able to narrow the source of the problem, i.e. is it to do with the dvd drive?

i presume it is a combi drive / dvdrw or were u burning on a different drive?

cheers
