Hi guys,

Looking into building a HTPC.

It needs to be able to do the following:
• Storing the the movies/TVshows on the HTPC. (have a 2TB drive)
• Download the TV shows etc.
• HDMI - play 1080
• Blu-Ray not important
Budget £500 (possibly more if needed)

Case:
Lian Li PC-Q09FB Mini-ITX HTPC Chassis - Black [PC-Q09FB] (ideally)
or
Lian Li PC-C50B HTPC Case - Black

Thank you very much for your assistance, you guys rule :D

will you be doing any light gaming on the HTPC, or will it be purely for TV purposes?

(i'm guessing not, but i just want to check because if you are the llano processors will be perfect for you)

TV/Movies only
may use for the odd bit of browsing or iplayer (guess this makes no difference)

Oh and also will be running xbmc

Thankyou

ok, the intel i3 2100's onboard graphics will be plenty then.

it came so far under budget that i put a blu ray in in case you wanted one:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Zotac Z68ITX-A-E Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £129.98
1 x Intel Core i3-2100 3.10GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail £89.99
1 x Lian Li PC-Q09FB Mini-ITX HTPC Chassis - Black £84.98
1 x LG CH10LS20 10x BluRay-ROM / 16x DVD±RW Drive - Black (Retail) £52.99
1 x Corsair Builder Series CX 430W V2 ATX '80 Plus' Power Supply (CMPSU-430CXUKV2) £39.98
1 x Crucial Ballistix Sport 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz Dual Channel Kit (BL2KIT25664BA1339) £22.79

i have literally no idea what you will need to download the TV shows other than an internet connection because all i do HTPC wise is download from iPlayer

Excellent :D

Thank you.

Does the case comes with a PSU?
i3 comes with a heatsink?
Blu-ray player slim line to fit the case?

Zotac a good Mobo? was looking at a gigabyte, but if you think this is better I will go for this :D

Thank you again for your help :D

case doesnt come with a PSU, thats why i put the corsair 430W in there
the i3 2100 comes with a heatsink. its not amazing but you dont need amazing for that chip
from what ive heard the zotac isnt too bad. i chose it because its the cheapest of the two ITX motherboards (the more expensive coming with stuff you really didnt need)
i didnt realise the case only took slimline drives so the one i chose wont fit. not really sure which slimline drives are good or bad or what you should expect from slimline drives so its probably best to ask someone else about them

ATX PSU's don't fit in the Lian Li PC-Q09FB.
But according to their website it should come with a 150W PSU of its own. you might want to check in the customer service section before ordering!

ugh, with that and the slimline DVD thing heres a different spec. not as small as the other one but its just as good (and everything will fit):

i suppose it does allow you to use more than one PCIe card

I like your original spec Reaper.
Drop the corsair PSU and the OP will have enough to spend on a slimline BlueRay drive.
They normally come in at about £80/£90 - its just OcUK don't stock them.
The dual HDMI 1.4a spec means that HD3D is supported, decent if its going to be connected to an av reciever.
Only downside is lack of space for air flow.

What you really want is an SSD to boot and run your media programs, this way they won't "freeze/pause" when the 2TB drive stops spinning.

Thanks very much ;)

Do you know if I will be able to fit a SSD and my 2TB HDD in that case or not?

Thanks,
Tom

How does that look?

Sorry don't know how you make it look so tidy when you post

That case will probably be better overall because once you start adding blueray files, be it isos or mkvs it will soon fill, so room for another will be essential.

do you have a spare £35?
Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 6450
That will quieten the whole thing down by offloading the video onto the graphics card.
It will also help if you want to use hardware acceleration.

The system will run fine without mind you.

Awesome :D Thanks so much for your help !

1 more question. How should I connect this to my wireless network?
Does the mobo have the option or shall i buy a wireless card?

Thanks again!
