Hey all I wonder if anybody has an HTPC set up ive recently had a build from over clockers but didnt like the case it was a midi tower but I think it was to big for me and the wifes bedroom now im looking for something smaller the set up we had

Case-NZXT H2 classic silent midi tower
Rajinek themis direct contact CPU cooler
Kingston hyperX beast 8GB
Compro videomate S350 digi sat tv card
ASUS Z97-A intel Z97 mother board
LG BDRW
Super flower golden green 650w 80 plus gold
Intel core i5 4690
Windows 7 64 bit
ASUS zonar D1
Samsung 120gb SSD
Seagate barracuda 1tb

The reason ive posted this because im thinking on changing the tower to maybe an micro ATX or a mini ATX something smaller then a midi and changing the mothrrboard to the ASUS Z97i plus mini so im wondering on what case would suit the parts really for a HTPC and would the motherboard change also suit

Hi Nick,

The CPU cooler will limit the case choice. It's 157mm tall, so that would eliminate something like a CoolerMaster Elite 130 or other very small-form factor cases. Unless you ditch the Rajintek cooler and just use the stock cooler.

A mini-ITX motherboard also appears to be out of the question, because of your two cards (TV tuner and Sound) which require at least one PCI and one PCI-E slot. So if you want to keep using them, you'd need a micro-ATX motherboard.

So what would you like to do? Go for a micro-ATX motherboard and a case like an Aerocool Dead Silence, to fit those parts in, or decide on changes in order to downsize further?

How about a BitFenix Phenom? They aren't too big (smaller than the Prodigy as they don't have the handles). Used them for a couple of builds and didn't tire of looking at them. Nice, understated and sleek. Together with a Gigabyte motherboard?

YOUR BASKET
1 x BitFenix Phenom MATX Cube Case - Nvidia Edition - White £74.95
1 x BitFenix Phenom MATX Cube Case - Nvidia Edition - Black £74.95
1 x BitFenix Phenom MATX Cube Case - Arctic White £74.95
1 x BitFenix Phenom MATX Cube Case - Midnight Black £74.95
1 x Gigabyte H81M-HD3 Intel H81 (Socket 1150) DDR3 Micro ATX Motherboard £41.99
Total : £369.64 (includes shipping : £23.20).

The Blu-Ray rewriter can go into the Phenom's internal 5.25" bay. Front panel just needs to be popped on/off to use it.

Or the Aerocool DS:

You could also go for something like the Silverstone Grandia, and use the stock CPU cooler, not the Rajintek:

1 x Silverstone Grandia GD04 Grandia Desktop - Black (SST-GD04B USB 3.0) £79.99
