I've never heard of this company before www.infocado.co.uk, but i received an E-mail from them the other day asking if they could use some of my images (taken in Derby) they had found on my flickr for a regional calender they are making.

They stated i would not be paid but they would credit me for any images they use, plus send me a free copy of the calender.

I said this was fine and today recieved another E-mail saying they want to make a whole calender dedicated to my work!?

Has anyone else come across this company before?

Never heard of them but I'm now suspicious they make a business out of calenders full of free 'credited' photos.

I think it's a bit cheeky making an entire calender from your work and not paying anything.

It would be great to get paid, but they told me they could not pay and therefore wouldn't use them if i asked for a fee.

Cheeky by them yes, but my photos are just snapshots. Can't imagine anyone would want to pay to use them!

Your photographs have a value attached to them, I'd be asking for at least £50 for each picture use in that one calendar.

Do NOT let them use them for free!

Yet they're good enough to use on a calendar? A commercial product which they will make lots of money from.

Don't be a sap.

Like i said, if i asked for a fee, they wouldn't use them!

To be honest i'm not that bothered. Just nice for my stuff to get published.

What? You think they would have paid me if i'd have asked for a fee?

if they REALLY wanted them then yes.

i believe the point is, said companies getting photos for free devalues the photo industry. companys now demand free images for their commercial use as people give them away which leads to photographers not getting paid.

TBH they're just taking you for a ride there, mate. You might think that it's nice just to get the exposure, but you can guarantee they'll be making a fair amount on the sales. It's only fair on you and on the industry in general that you get paid.

If you're really not that bothered about charging in the initial instance and if they honestly aren't going to move then as a minimum, ask (/demand) the back is printed with your information and website (get one set up sharpish that will handle sales!).

Exactly, well done Steve for devaluing the industry that bit more.

Even a 10% royalty wouldn't be much to ask for.

I see. To be fair to myself though, i am not a professional photographer and never will be.

I can understand why the cheek of companies who do this annoys people but I just take photos for my own enjoyment. If a company wants to use my stuff on a calender, then great. Can't say it bothers me much if they get them for free.

Sorry if that offends anyone.

Yes, i already stated that was a condition of them using them.

You don't understand!

What was the reason for this thread if you weren't getting paid anyway?

Were you worried they might go and resell your photo's for a profit? Oh wait...
