Stuttering in games, Texture loading problem?

Right title says it all, ive mentioned it before in another section not so long ago but i thought i'd slap it here with my minor updates and maybe a more approriate place?
Basically im getting stuttering in games, games are still playabe but its making me pi**ed off. Its like it skips frames every often, it does differ from game to game.
It doesn'd effect my fps at all, infact my fps is 60fps with v-sync constantly with most games.

fallout, farcry 2 do this, gears of war does it quite a lot although ive been told this is the game itself, but i do believe my system is making it worse as its constant.
Left 4 Dead can get quite ridiculous especially on the pening and closing scenes, very noticable.

Ive heard a lot of things that can cause this, sound drivers, bio's drivers, gfx drivers etc..ive defragged my hdd's and i had this on my previous single 4870 and dual.
Ive updated everything and its still the same, my HDD is in good condition, every i my system i got last november minus my gfx card and PSU, so its generally in good whack still.

One of the most recent things ive heard is maybe my cpu isn't working with my mobo properly, not utilising its Quad core properly.
I honestly don't know anymore, tried evetything and im lost, any help would be appreciated.

I noticed I would get this with my X1650 Pro [back in the day!] when it was OC'd but not when stock.

As you have noted though, if you have tried everythning at stock - volts, speed, the full shebang - then the next step would be a bootstrap system, or possibly a 'gamestrap' system; remove anything not needed for the games to run, and retry. IE remove extra RAM, sound cards, USB hard drives, unplug front panel card reasers etc, and see if the problem is still there.

If it is, then, er, well stuff knows what it could be. Worth trying though to eliminate any extras you have on the machine.

Incidentally, if you are worried that your CPU isn't utilising all four cores properly, run a multithreaded benchmark [Prime/IntelBunTest] and see if the CPU usage/temps rise across all four cores; normally a CPU will either work or it won't, you don't often see a half cocked CPU core IME.

Yer ill try all this when i get home from work, hopefully my ram and hdd are fine.
Didnt want to spend any extra cash for a while really but i may be good to get some hdd's in raid.

I'd be good to try another hdd out but i dont have one to hand atm.

I'll try underclocking some of my parts too, one thing i havnt tried.

Make sure it's not another program causing the stuttering. I had a similar problem. Turns out it was HWmonitor that was freezing the system for a fraction of a second.

Yeah used to happen a lot on to me and it was windows defender doing a scan, they don't last long so when i went back out after about 5-10mins of getting vexed i could see nothing that would be causing it.

Left 4 Dead stutters on my 8800 GTX, there is an issue with recent Nvidia drivers.

Run out of full screen, but with a resolution that covers the whole screen, sorts it out for me.

never heard of hdtune, ill try that before my re-install tonight..i just use generic programmes tbh.

Yea i heard left4dead has problems, but also has problems with multi cpu's.

But this is across the board with games.

I get stuttering type lag in Windows 7 while gaming, using an ATI card, latest driver not helped. Everything works fine in Vista 64. I have stopped using W7 (again previously because of Punkbuster) due to this.

Right, done a complete re-install etc, and its still here.

Atm its looking like its stuttering or seems to be when i run into a new area etc.

For example, Half life 2 stutters, even on low settings, this used to run flawlessy.

Anyone know what this might indicate, vram?

Edit: Forgot to add i noticed several months back also, that in a lot of my games my LOD seemed to deteriate, as i actually noticed objects textures loading while i walk, quite considerably.

How are your temps? This happened to a friend of mine before. Turns out the crappy Intel Stock cooler popped off.

Try some stress tests like the ATiTool to test out your gpu and the Intel Burn test for your cpu and at the same time monitor the temps. Thermal throttling could be a cause for your issues.

My cpu average across all cores tends to be 40-43 idle and 56-59 @100% load.
My gpu is about 70 id say, according to evga precision oc thingy, it does get quiet hot at times, but i cant imagine HL2 pushing it that hard?

Ill give it a quick whirl and load em both.

hmmm, I used to have bad stuttering, turned out to be hard drive related. When I took the SATA cable off, and put it in a different motherboard slot, the stuttering seemed to stop. Aparently if the cable is bent too much that can cause problems, and I assume that was the case in my problem.

Wahey no luck :/

This is proper pi***ng me off now, its just a matter of google google google..

Is there anyway to tell if my HDD is under performing? Its generally when i enter a new area, it doesnt seem to do it once ive been there a while, hence its been fully loaded.

Indicating hdd or ram?
