Im toying about with various idea's at the moment one of them involving mass's of driving..

So what reasonably cheap cars have the best range?

I was toying with the idea of an E39 M5 but def. not if I go through with this! :p

My old A4 did 440 miles for £52 of unleaded.

Most of driving will be cruising m'ways so I just need the car with the longest range for least wonga ;)

hatch/estate preffered.

Can anyone find something that can do 1k miles for £50?! :D

Didn't the Audi A8 Diesel on TopGear do 800 miles from London to Edinburgh and back on one tank?

Yes it did. However it had an 8 billion million litre tank so in terms of miles per £ it probably isn't any better than a 2.0 Vectra

And he didnt even have so much as the air con on, drove at 60mph tops, absolutely as economically as he could. Who wants to drive like that!

As far as economy goes you cant go far wrong with a VAG PD diesel. Mine does stupid MPG on the motorway at a cruise, something stupid like 650 miles to £45-50 worth of diesel at 80mph, and thats not caring at all about economy while doing it, so accelerating harshly if needed etc.

I'd imagine the economy would be similar across all of the PD engined cars, so thats A3's, A4's, Seat Leons, Golf's, Passats, etc etc.
