Anyone looking forward to this? Seen the adverts etc?

Looks like it'll be very interesting but also do nothing to change the problem.

But can the well-meaning plan of a celebrity chef survive the sceptical locals and the interests of the big supermarkets?

I like that. Consider that celebrity chefs indirectly influence what the supermarkets sell anyway.

I hope this kicks off. Some of the chicken sold in supermarkets here tastes absolutely disgusting. Some of the time you can definitely tell the chicken hasn't been kept well at all.

would have thought you would have been a quality over quantity kinda guy, eat less of it but get quality when you do. Just got that impression from all the cooking stuff you mention.

Yeah, its alright liking to cook quality food. In that respect i'm the same, but i can't always afford to. If free range chickens cost the same as a farmed chicken, then i would gladly buy free range.

I was disgusted when I got chicken and found that it came from Germany!

The more free range british poultry the better!

I would be if I could afford it. I do meals with decent produce couple of times a month.

I know what you mean AH2, free range chickens are usually twice the price of battery. One thing I do however is to get the butcher to cut the chicken into 4, therefore you have 2 breasts, 2 legs, and then wings and carcass to make stock which is alright for £4.

Just started now, seems interesting so far.

I wonder how many consumers don't know about the chickens' conditions and how many do know and just don't care?

Fair play to him for having the guts to build his own intensive farm. Hopefully this will educate a few more people to put animal welfare and quality produce first, and price last.

Was a cool program but my girlfriend didn't like the chicken chucking ( I agree it looks fun!) or the killing.... but she's decided she wants a chicken. =/

Watched it and I thought it was great although I'm a vegetarian. I never really thought much of that guy as I seem to remember him killing loads of rare animals pointlessly. I did find it odd how they chucked the chicks out of the boxes but I guess they are more agile as they are young.

I fail to see why he's surprised at the reactions he's getting from the industry. Standing outside Tesco's trying to shock people about how bad battery farmed chickens conditions are isn't going to win him any points.

I think he could do a lot for the industry though if he gets the programs balance right.

The whole cooking week looks great, tonights was interesting I suppose, what I expected.
