So a friend of mine recently bought a car from a dealership, a week or two later he noticed in the boot of his car something half under the boot lining, pulling it out it turned out to be an Apple Watch..

Obviously surprised he tried asking all of his friends if it belonged to him, he ruled out it must have been the previous owner.. He borrowed a charger from a friend in work and got it up and running, he was adamant that he wanted to sell it and make a quick buck..

I took a look at it and went through some of the apps (messages, contacts etc.) and i found the name of the owner, a young girl around 15 miles away.. looking at some of the messages it was clear that she had recently lost her dad to cancer (not really relevant but could mean the watch may have sentimental value)

I said to my friend that the right thing to do, knowing the owner of the watch would be to try and have it returned, or at least ask if she wanted it back..

Where would you stand on this? my workplace was roughly 80% in favour of trying to give it back.. Its something of such small value that may have sentimental value to the original owner..

I would be in favour of returning it in the first place as, like you already said, it's the right thing to do. What you said about the owner losing her father to cancer just reinforces my opinion that returning the watch is only option.

I found a mobile phone in a park in the late 90s (so they were expensive and less common).

I took it home and called the last number on it and spoke to the owners wife.

He came and picked it up later but was annoyed with me for finding it because he was about to get a new one through insurance.

My view is that anyone that doesn't want to give it back is not the sort of person you'd want to associate with.

How does a watch get under the boot lining ?

Unless a kidnap victim , i suppose, ....................................

Finders keepers losers weepers...that’s the saying goes I guess.

Joking aside tell your mate to give it back to her and if he doesn’t, slap him upside the head.

Who the hell loses there watch in the boot and not notice  there not exactly cheap either apple watches.
Either way he has to return the watch to her

If you know who the girl is, tell her that your "mate" has it and to contact him or get he police to contact him. Then stop being friends with him.
