I've never quite understood why we would want to create thinking/feeling robots, the whole point of them is to in effect be our slaves, sentience is completely counter-productive.
Plus we have enough (too much) sentient life on this planet already.

How much superior to humans would say a android stock trader with sentience be?
never sleep, can have information fed in directly at huge speeds, still has though to give it "gut feeling" too.

If sexbots look like this then it'll be hard to stop them, bans or not.
Seriously, if i were single i'd be camping outside the shop on release day like a Apple fanboy if they looked like that.
This is the reason why women are trying to get sexbots banned in the US as soon as possible. If they make them near perfect (with AI to boot), women would be pretty much redundant apart from making children. They could also be a tool to help those with chronic social problems that find it impossible to create and maintain a solid relationship with a women.
Or those with sexual deviances that are illegal in law, they can safely carry out those deviances on a specifically designed androids so they don't go on to commit those acts on a real women and girls. They can also act as chaperones so that the android has to be with the person 24/7 and if they try to commit a crime against a real woman the android can arrest them and take them to the police.
I can see sex crimes and rape falling dramatically if used correctly.
Exactly this, if the AI is good enough (which it will be within 30 years i believe) then they will be able to convince you that they're loyal and in love with you. They don't even have to be truly sentient, just clever programming.

30 years? More like 300 for the fully functioning AI 'sentient' robot.
You say that, but if I'd suggested in 1986 (30 years ago-ish) that you could have a phone with 128 million times more memory than your Sinclair computer that had a full colour screen and you could have video calls with someone on the other side of the planet, or use it to watch films, VR, pornography, etc etc etc, would you have believed me?

But, it doesn't need to be fully sentient does it (For the purposes being discussed) It just has to look good, perform well and pass a Turing test.
I am sure that, even now, there are plenty of perfectly happy couples out there whose level of intellectual interaction could be equalled by current AI (Or, at least by AI systems that will be available within this decade)
It is actually the hardware that is going to be more difficult I suspect.

Some say the future of humankind is the bonding of man and machine (think ghost in the shell rather than cleaning the pipework...) in order to continue existence beyond the stars and galaxies that we can see.
I can see why this is, space isn't kind to biological matter, and physical bodies have a limited lifespan. I reckon humans could be transferring their consciousness into machines sooner than machines become sentient.
Although some "experts" believe that the technological singularity is somewhere in the 2030s.. so who knows.

What an absolutely ridiculous idea and assumption. Deranged thoughts like this are what are destroying humanity.
Rape declines because rapist can get ****ed off by a machine? Seriously? All this will do is create a generation of people who have their natural needs taken care of by a robot, as if we don't have enough ****ers already. Rapists will continue raping ffs. One of the deficiencies in a rapist is empathy. A lack of learning/being taught to respect PEOPLE and their wishes. How on earth does replacing the person with a robot fix this???
In fact your idea will create more rape because there will be swathes of people who will not know real people/women. This is just separating men and women, with a wedge made of AI.
