So, I fancy buying myself a humidor. I do like the odd cigar, and bought a box yesterday and have some singles kicking around my alcohol shelves. I've decided that they really need to be stored correctly.

So, spec me a humidor.

It doesn't need to be particularly big, it'll only ever hold 15 cigars at the very most. The cigars are pretty much always Robustos though the odd Churchill will no doubt find it's way in.

Price? Well, I have no idea how much I ought to spend. I wouldn't really want to spend more than £30 but I really have no idea what I'm looking for.

I've seen these which seem OK:

For £30 and that many cigars, don't bother with any of the wooden variations. You'll end up with a bottom of the range leaky box.

As tom_e has suggested, any sort of air tight container with a bag of humidity control beads in there will do the job. Google "tupperdor" or "coolerdor" for some creative ideas.

It can help to put a bit of Spanish cedar in there for aroma and to maintain a bit of stability but this isn't absolutely necessary.

Heartfelt beads are the best IMO. I currently use a Xikar Crystal humidifier but it's no good for ageing. It keeps the humidity around 70% which is too humid for long term storage or ageing but it's perfect or bringing the humidity up to smoking range, which is the high 60s for me. Get yourself some 65% RH Heartfelt beads and your sticks will be good for smoking straight out of the box.

And just to add to that, if you have enough beads, you won't even need a hygrometer. They're excellent!
