Hunting Rabbits

Heeeee

Actually timmy, it seems the National Trust most certainly DOES allow most types of hunting to be practised on its land. Fishing, shooting AND hunting with dogs (within the confines of the Hunting Act)! Good for them!

PDF of the National Trust's stance on hunting.

Also, defeat of a LACS motion to ban hunting on Trust land. The committee decided not to bow to LACS' "political" (their words!) move to use the Trust as an animal rights platform. Good for them again. Sauce.

All I can say is good luck trying, I tried for 2 years trying to get trust land to shoot on.
After sending no less then 36 letters and 2 years later I gave up.
It is the typical red tape treatment.
Best go ask some farmers.

Sorry a bit of an update w.r.t. National Trust Land

Dear Mr Callaghan

Thank you for email. Where rabbits are a pest on our land and conflict with the need to protect plant life, we will consider ways in which a control can be actioned. That might include shooting. You have used the word 'hunt' in your e mail. I can only assume that was shorthand (somewhat unfortunate in this day and age) for shooting but in any event we would need to consider very clearly what you have in mind.

Most of our land is let to tenant farmers and any such action on that land would need to be taken through them. We do have some land in hand and in such circumstances may issue a licence to shoot if we see it as in keeping with the need to control.

Perhaps you could clarify what you have in mind and where, so that I can respond more precisely.

Yours sincerely

Dear Sir/Madam,

I was wondering if you can confirm if it is possible to hunt rabbits on National Trust Land with permission from your self or is it categorically disallowed.

Best Regards

Nick Callaghan

Just my 2p - with a little experience of bunny-bashing, but you need to be very specific when writing to anyone regarding permisison.

If you do write to farmers, clarify what weapon you're using (air rifle if this is the case) and clarify that you're a member of BASC (for the liability insurance) and that you will notify local Police before carrying out any rabbit shooting.

The last place I shot rabbits I actually did use a 12G side by side, it was like fish in a barrel. The place was infested - I'd have quadrupled the bag easily if we had a silenced air rifle with us, but we didnt :( 4 shotguns and a .22 rimfire was it. (not zeroed properly either)
