Felt on my hut is in need of replacing but rather than chuck on the default black felt I was wondering if any of you have recommendations for shingles, tiles or the felt that looks like either of them?

It's in dire need of tarting up so I'm not fussed about the cost too much (within reason) but I'd rather sort this shed out than get a new one!

Felt is leaking on mine and its only been on there a year .

Fibreglass shingles would be a good option. They use them a lot in the USA, even on houses. They also look far better than the crappy green felt, but i guess it's only a shed, so doesnt matter. I think they might work out more expensive than the felt, but if they are used on houses then i'd imagine they will last a lot longer.

That metal roofing looks good as well. My dad said he used to fit something similar to that on some apartments he was building over in Germany years ago. The one he was fitting was metal, but it looked just like a normal roof tile, even had a course texture to it.

I have looked a various shingles, even quailty IKO Armourglass - Square shingles, which covers 3sq mtrs per pack cost about £30-£36 per pack.
But, I would need to a vapour barrier underneath them, as workshop is heated.:(
Got a area of 18sq mtrs to cover, will cost over £200 in shingles, plus cost of vapour barrier., which is why I'm looking at tile metal cladding as an alternative.

I'm fairly sure you don't need to put a vapour barrier under shingles, it's just for tiled roofs? At least I can't think of a technical benefit in doing so.

I think they use tar paper in the US.

There is a paint on bitumen compound that you can put down before the felt, I'm assuming this helps the felt stick to the roof. I've not noticed anyone using it though, but it seems a good idea.

I really like Wickes two part roofing, thick bitumen bottom layer and an adhesive felt on top, doubled in price since I last used it though.

Your confused, I'm confused now.

This what I was reading specs from.

Ugh, I'm posting tired again and I haven't eaten yet.
What I meant to say was 'vapour membrane' not barrier.

I think I was confused by you saying you need a vapour barrier underneath the shingles, as I'm thinking it's only needed before any insulation?

Or something.
