Huxley - overly ambitious?

Just been reading a bit about Huxley, a game I've been looking forward to for a while. I'm starting to get a bit worried though - it seems like an incredibly ambitious game, and we know what usually happens to them - they either end up slipping away or become watered down and similar to anything else out there.
For example, they're suggesting battles with 200 players will be possible. Is that likely? What kind of server will they need for that kind of thing? Is 100 players on a team even a good idea from a gameplay point of view?
Then there are the quests mixed in with the game. That sounds hard - to cater for UT-style deathmatching on a grand scale whilst still permitting an almost single-player experience.
Just wondering about whether what's planned for this game is feasible or not. I hope so - it'll be incredible if they pull it off.

Yeah, 200 players does sound overly amibitious, it sort of makes sense with the MMOFPS genre they've placed themselves in with levels and weapon upgrades etc. I'm not sure how well a 360 could pull of that many characters on screen though Dead Rising did have quite a few on there! Also, is there any mention of a release date? News on anything about this game seems to have been pretty non-existant for a long time now.

200 isn't all that much of an increase these days. Joint Operations had 150 players on a server and they ran fine and it's a couple of years old now.

all depends how they code it, as it's pay to play 100 per side is very possible.

As for the quest it's like most MMO games, the big battle will be at designated sites or you'll have to accept to join in. the quests are for the single player grinding bit, in-between the PVP battles.

I cant remember how many people you needed in a zone to pop lock Planetside but im sure it was more than 200.

Ok so planetside wasnt the smoothest game ever but I really enjoyed it for a while.

Hopefully its not like that, the world needs a open MMOFPS with friendly fire on. Planetside handled it fine, proper punishment for repeated FF abuse is all. With race vs race or guild vs guild it would rock. I am hoping Huxley will offer this in a nice "twitch" friendly interface.

Well planetside was able to handle over that amount. But if they can do it and retain hitbox detection, that would be pretty damn good. I guess in the age of broadband it's possible, it wasn't when planetside was originally created.

The THQ Warhammer40k MMO strikes me as ideal as a MMOFPS but apart from its anouncment i havent seen much else on what format it will take.

Planetside 2 could be good but ive seen nothing of it.

Yeh that Warhammer game looks very good as an MMORPG! Not into MMORPG's but this could sway me into getting into one!

Im looking forward to Huxley, i'd like to get it but games like that really depend on it being popular or it just doesn't work. Planetside succeeded in handling huge amounts of players in a single area, although it wasn't the smoothest of things because of the rather poorly designed engine and my awful PC at the time :p
