HWBOT setup and benching advice (X99)

I've managed to pick up a 6700k ITX bundle on the MM. I'll get my 1080 into it and designate it my gaming rig and then the X99 5930k setup is ready for full time benching. :D

I've picked up a copy of Windows XP so I'm looking to kick off with 2D CPU benchmarks to begin with. I'm planning to get the 5930k sitting around maybe 4.8GHz and then I'll look at fine tuning the memory and try to learn some finer points of benching.

I'll post my progress here and would welcome any advice anyone may feel inclined to share. I do work away from home for long spells, so it won't be constant updates... But I'm looking forward to getting it all set up.

Got a strange thing going on here. I've installed XP and my CPU (5930k under water) idles at 55°C. My CPU is also OC'd to 4.4Ghz but in XP it sits solid at 3.4Ghz.

So, idles hot and under-clocks?

Right, thanks to some cracking help from @Jumper118 I'm up and running.

First stop is Win 7 and some 2D benchmarks. Does anyone have any recommendations for what to bench with this OS? I'm particularly interested in fine tuning my core clock and also RAM timings.

I'll update my Sig with my benching spec in case anyone fancies helping out a wee bit here and there.

windows 7 you can do geekbench3 and 4 and r15 and r11.5. looks like you have a nice range of gpu's to get some good points as well :) geekbench is best for seeing how good your ram is as it relies a fair bit on ram efficiency and it makes use of quad channel. cinebench r15 is mostly core/cache speed, but likes ram at decent speed as well and r11.5 is pure frequency of core and cache with ram not affecting score much.

wprime is 50/50 xp or 7 but idk, super pi is xp and max cpu frequency xp also.

im not sure if you are allowed to use 10 on x99. its haswell based so i guess not.

@Jumper118 that's again, bud. I'll get tore in shortly.

And yes, I've been collecting GPU's for a wee while now. My 780 is a Classy with full cover block so I'm going to get hold of a custom BIOS and really push it. Once I get a decent core clock on the CPU sorted I'll start on the GPU's.

yeah thats a good idea to get 2d sorted first :) i also have a pair of 780 classy hydro's, but i have yet to get a decent bios for them. my best one does 1339/1827 on stock bios but for some reason the other one dies above 1280. i havent used them since December though as i am planning on using the r7 1800x for my 3d and am4 is still a mess :p

I've been back in action this past week. Picked up some good points on 3D benches, and am now in the process of claiming my gold cups back from the American dude who stole all my GTX 555 crowns. :p

I'm like a 2 year old when I finally push past the competition. :D

All the UJ's are me and as you can see I've got a bit of chasing to do yet...

yeah you have been doing some good subs :D for heaven the nvidia inspector setting make a big difference. can you post a pic of the setting you used?

I haven't been tweaking with NV Inspector yet. Now that I'm having to work for my competitive edge, I'll definitely need some help with that.

I'll post some screens tomorrow when I've got the bench rig back up.

Cheers.

ok, in that case once you use lod you'll fly past the other guy in heaven basic and further your lead in xtreme

Here's my Inspector settings. I've tweaked a few after having Google'd around, but not convinced they are optimal.

lol. i think you did the lod the wrong way and also you need to change that super sampling to repeat all aa mode :p. i like try get a pic at some point but i am benching amd cards atm.

Yea, I'm lost with the LOD thing and the older benchmarks in general. It's been a good exercise with the GTX 555 as the #1 guy had the same CPU too so I know I can take him.

I've got all the top scores I can for now, I just need to get the tweaks right for the likes of Aquamark and the older 3DMark stuff.

your version of inspector is slightly different to mine.

for heaven higher lod is normally better i have found. 8-24lod for firstrike you will be best around 2-4. for 3d mark vantage x8 spare grid super sampling is the best mode to use with 5-12lod depending on the card.

the joys of x99 :D

also the soc champoin is £135 at ocuk now so if it does die you can get a decent board pretty cheap
