HWmonitor Vs Real Temp

For some reason the core temp reading between these two differ quite a bit, when I boot into bios from cold the bios shows roughly 25c idle and when I boot into windows and open real temp that shows roughly the same, but if I open HWmonitor that shows idle temp in the late 30s to early 40s.

I'm not bothered which is correct I'm just wondering why they're so different, does HWmonitor have the wrong setting for my CPU or something so doesn't read it properly? AIDA64 stability monitor also shows all four cores idling mid 20s so I'm inclined to believe HWmonitor is wrong for some reason.

I would guess either hwmonitor is doing something thats causing your CPU to not actually be idle, or it show the wrong sensor readings, are the load temps also different?

Yes load temps are out by the same amount, roughly 10-15c on all cores. HWmonitor isn't causing any load at idle, plus I've had them open at the same time and they're reading differently at the same time during idle and load.

Done a bit more testing and all the other ways of monitoring core temp are reporting the same temp, the only one that isn't is HWmonitor for some reason. This is a bit of a balls up because I did some testing recently between two different CPUs and used HWmonitor to monitor temps, this throws all my results out of the window.

Is there any figure in hwmonitor that matches the other two places you have checked?

Even if its named differently.

When I first started using hwmonitor I had a bit of an issue trying to find the correct labelled figure to report temps.

No not really, the system temp was being reported across all the programs the same, it was only core temp that wasn't right.

Bit of an update though: I reinstalled HWmonitor and now it's reporting the same as the others, I checked in the .DAT file and it showed a different tjmax to all the others, I wonder if that was messing things up. Anyway it's the same now it seems. I'll keep an eye on it though.
