Just got 1 of these PSUs and noticed it has a cable labelled fan only but can't see or find any special connectors on the PSU that are labelled fan only.

Anybody have any ideas if they can temp control fans or is it just a standard molex with only GND and 12v connected as that's all that the fan only connectors have. Have read that other PSUs have these connectors and the PSU controls the RPM via a temp sensor in the PSU but can't for the life of me see how this would work with the Corsair.

i didnt use it. i just linked my fans up together and used one molex to power them. i just got this powersupply and didnt have a clue what they were really for and how to use them properly so i didnt bother.

Guess I'll consign this cable to the pouch in that case as I have my fans connected together in pairs and using this cable would mean another molex sitting there getting in the way.

Nah, just seems to be a splitter with only +12v and gnd. I have no idea why they woud even include one like this.

F.Y.I and anyone else.....every PSU that I have seen or used that comes with fan or fan only connectors have some form of speed control based on the temperature of air thru the psu.
Hotter the air thru the psu, faster the fans will spin.

A lot of people have said that all the connections are are just regular 12v split off from the main 12v rail.
Not so.
There is no point in that at all.
I have tested a lot of psu's that have fan connections and every one could control the speed.

Most psu's have thermo controlled fans anyway and then if there are dedicated fan connectors as well then the same control that sets the speed of the internal psu fan will also control any fan plugged into the fan connector.

The fan only connector in the Corsair is just a molex splitter that you plug into a regular molex connector with only the GND and 12v lines connected. There's also no fan only connector on the PSU itself to plug your main molex cable into which is why I asked.

So is all this gubbind inside the cable then?
Because the OP did say there are no differentiated sockets on the PSU.

There is a difference in the fan only connector, it has no 5V. I asked Corsair before I bought one, they confirmed it has no speed/voltage control, just 12V.

Sounds like the fan connector i have on my Yesico 550watt fanless PSU.

Works fine but runs at 100% all the time - can be loud with a high CFM fan.

;) I know. I have one. Its just 12v and gnd. Its a nice thought though.
