HX750 buzzing.

I've noticed my hx750 has started to buzz underload. It's 3-4 years old, far as I can tell it's not the fanless operation model and think it's from after they stopped using seasonic, so will be CWT.

Anyway, so underload it appears to have a buzz sound. I'd like to say it's only just started, but I normally game with headphones, so it could also just be something I've never noticed before. I also upgraded my system 2 months or so ago to something a little more power hungry (8350/5850 to 5820K/r9 290). So it's been having more drawn from it over the past 2 months, than in the previous time I've had it.

The buzz is always there underload. You can only really hear it on stuff that isn't too demanding. Stuff that is, the fan from the psu will drown it out. For example resident evil revelations, you can hear it, battlefront, while it's still there, the psu fan will drown it out.

It's not the fan itself, or at least it doesn't sound like it but I guess it could be. Sounds like a buzz, you can hear the pitch change sometimes. How loud it is, fairly easy to hear if you take headphones off. However, to be completely fair, my pc is right next to me and the case (cm690ii) has fan hole in the panel right by the psu. If I move so I'm more in front of the pc or the other side, then it's not so audible.

I've upped a video here, taken from behind the psu. Might have to turn it up to hear the buzz behind the fan, at around 12s you can hear the pitch change.

I don't have any stablity issues with the machine.
It's definitely the psu making the noise.

So just wondering if it's something to be concenered about, or just the psu getting on a bit. I was planning on changing to a EVGA supernova g2, but not until after Christmas.

I can live with it till then, if it's just some sort of whine, as I game exclusively with headphones, so can't hear it and it doesn't do it when browsing/watching videos/encoding etc.

Not sure if psu is under warranty, techincally 7 years on this model, but it was a free warranty upgrade from a tx650 bought in 2010, which only has 5, so I would assume it goes by that.

Not sure if you have done it already but I would suggest that you get that unit replaced via RMA. That HX is still under warranty since your original TX had a 5 warranty which is technically still under that duration.

Submit an RMA and get that replaced before your warranty fully expire. If you run into any issues, feel free to contact me and I'll get it sorted out for you.

Just a quick post so there is no confusion. I haven't done anything yet. I made a post on the corsair forums earlier today (as I didn't seem like i was going to a response here). My post there has a few more details and vids.

I think the TX may have been early 2010 but I really have no idea. I'll have to check exactly when it was bought.

Just throwing this here to avoid confusion, that is my account over there :), same person, same issue :).

Thanks for the heads up. Those videos will definitely help to make your case which I think at this point is already eligible for RMA.

Yes, I can clearly hear the buzzing noise on the first video and subtle high pitch noise on the 2nd.

You can wait for one of the reps to reply in that thread, but if I were you, I'll just submit an RMA request to get a replacement right away.

Alright, thanks. I'll submit a request and try to get it sorted then.

Just to a quick bump to say Corsair support is good :D.

Put a request in late Friday, got my response today. RMA is approved :). Will be sending it in later this week. UK RMA address was a nice suprise, much cheaper to send it to the UK, than the Netherlands like last time.

Not sure what the replacement will be, as the hx is not made anymore, so I guess it will be what corsair considers it's equivelent. Unless there is old hx stock still kicking around :).

So, thought I'd give this a bump, considering people only seem to post when unhappy, that it's only fair to post the good as well.

Can't really fault Corsair's RMA service.

Sent my HX750 back to the UK centre and they received it on the 20th. Replacement psu was back with me on the 27th. So turnaround with Corsair was only a week :).

New supply is silent, no buzz, no whine, can't hear it at all even underload :).

Only minor/nitpick I can really say, is the tracker is very slow to update. Not sure if it's the tracker or the rma centre at fault. But it took 4 days after arrival at Corsair for it to even update to say it's been received. And the shipping info/tracking for the replacement didn't come until yesterday, even though the psu had already arrived here Friday.

But that's a very minor thing. Overall the whole RMA process was quick and easy :).
