HX850 fan noise under load.

Hi...

I just bought a nice new HX850 Gold & the voltages are great & I can't fault it for that...

My issues is with the 140mm fan & the controller, when playing games & using the GPU or under small load, the fan is so loud I can hear it over my headphones, its like its running at 100% even thought the system load is not that high for the PSU to manage ?

No overclock on CPU or GPU & stock cooler on due to my H100 being RMA. HDD unplugged, just running Mobo (inc Ram & CPU), GPU, Fans, 2 USB & 2 PCI-E devices).

I've tried turning the PSU over so the fan is facing up & that just made it louder, I have a 200mm fan on the side of my TT level 10 GT that I can face the fins to the top of the PSU so it can be cooled even more but its the same & what seem to be running 100% speed ?

The noise is louder that anything else within the system, even over the three 200mm fan on MAX !

Now, is this a fault with this PSU & a new one would fix it or are they all the same ?

This is the same noise level... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cM2ix8wDM9c

My TX750 apparently uses the same fan as your TX850 a yate loon D14BH-12.

I found it to be noisy even at idle. What I did was strip the fan out and replace the yate loon with https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FG-030-NB.
Now the fan is silent at idle and only spins up to what it was before at idle while playing FC3.

IMO corsair use a fast high cfm fans because they quote their max wattage at very high ambient temperatures.

I have a HX850 Gold, only a couple of weeks old and it is silent, at idle the fan doesn't even move and at full I can't hear the PSU.

Thanks, I don't want to open up the PSU yet as they have 7 years Warranty :)

Thank you, I'm thinking I've a duff one ! The fan does the same when Idle (still) but spins up when the GPU is used, its to much when gaming, I play FIFA 13 on the PC & its hardly a drain on the GPU & its at 100%... I've set up an RMA with Corsair but thought I'd see if any one else has this problem or has a good one ?

I have a HX850 v1 and its not exactly slient but the same noise on idle or load.
Also have a TX650 v2 in another pc and it is no were near as loud as that you tube video, but again idle and load its the same noise wise, its not silent and very similar to my hx850 v1.
With both Psu`s they dont ramp up when under load, and it sounds like the HX850v2 should have better fan management than previous models.

To try and compare is very subjective but id say both my Corsair fan noises are like a 140mm fan at around 1200rpm.

Thanks for the info. I think the new ones go up to 2000rpm, I can live with it ramping a bit when in load as I know its doing a job but mine is like a ON/OFF switch !

Just to update the Thread as it may help others that have the same problem's.

The PSU was Faulty, I got a refund & bought a Be Quiet!

Got a v1 hx 850 here, (bought second hand on here). The fan in it is probably the quietest in my whole system.

Yeah, the V1 (Silver) is one off the best PSU's as it has a better fan controller in it.

Looking forward to seeing the Be Quiet & the "NO" noise from it when at load :)
