One thing that annoys me about this power supply is how loud it is, 2 mins after booting up a demanding game it spools up and I can hear it through my headphones.
Currently running a TX Hybrid @ 1500mhz and 5930k @ 4.5GHZ with H110i GTX, all the other normal tools and a shed load of 140mm fans inside a NZXT H440.
Is it so loud because it's working hard to produce the power, would I be better off with a 1000/1200 PSU or simply one that's known for being quite?

HXi series is very quiet. one of the quietest I have used. Heck sent back a EVGA P2 for the HXi 1200.

Sounds odd that tbh. Gone through the HX1000i (its quietness was what made me send back the P2 when I upgraded to 1200w unit) and HXi1200i and neither made a peep at all. Infact the fans have never turned on during normal usage as they get enough passive air. on on occasions I test them manually to make sure they actually still work, do not make a peep until I manually move the RPM to 60 or so %

Ok now I've read that I'm wondering whether its my H110i GTX AIO cooler I can hear, just always thought it was the PSU as the AIO is kept in quite mode even for gaming as temps never go above 60+C so it's not working hard.

very easy way to check what is spinning just install the new corsair version 4 Link software it will show you what is spinning and at what speed and you can setup profiles to control them.

Ok seem I don't have it connected, but after watching Corsair link this evening I see the AIO for my TX Hybrid spooling up at the same time as the noise increases. Only thing is the noise drops off quicker than I see the RPM of the AIO drop back off again.
Guess I'll have to dig my box out and connect it up to find out for sure, but thanks for your help.
