Hight, first off I am a 2nd year uni student (electrical and mechanical engineering)

I work off two computers mainly, my laptop and my desktop, I'm planning on using rsync or something similar to keep the files on the two computers synched

In my flat, the destop is connected to the router via a cat 5e ethernet cable, router is only 100mb/s though, and the laptop connects over a wireless g network. Both the desktop and laptop are running windows 7 RC

Question is I have a 2nd network port on my desktop (x58 board) from which which I can attatch a crossover cable to join the desktop and laptop. Currently in order to get the computers to use this connection I need to disable the wireless network card on my laptop. In addition this disablkes homegroop for some reason, I think because win 7 believes it's an unidentified network and therefore turns network discovey off

First how can I get windows 7 to think that this network is a private network?

2nd is ther a way of forcing windows to send data over the gigabit crossovercable?

Ok, tried that, didn't work

I think it's because both my desktop and laptop believe that the crossover cable is a public network, andyone thing of a way to changd the crossover to a home network?
