Thought I might have a play with this physx larky as I have a 5850 and I can get my mitts on a free 9800GT :)
So having snooped around to figure out what I need to do I find that there is a new patch which works with the latest Nvidia driver and physx.

Hope someone finds it useful.
Disclaimer: I havent used it myself yet, will get to that on the weekend.

Maybe a 5970 for gfx and a 480 for physx would tide me over till general physics is available instead of this proprietary stuff

Nah some people spend more over a weekend on going out.

Two "wrongs" don't make a right though.

No, it's utterly pointless though.

A GTX480 will do nothing for PhysX that a 9800GT can't do.

Add that to the fact that PhysX is a huge gimmick anyway.

It's like using £20s in your wood burning stove when you should be using wood.

wait, what? I can use my 8800GTS I replaced a while back to run PhysX alongside my 5870? Wont installing an Nvidia driver alongside my CCC cause problems?

This is very interesting.

It works a treat. I have a 9800GTX+ and get great framerates with physx on max in metro and batman. :D

hmm, I was gonna replace the fan in my PSU for a quieter one this weekend. But I left work early and missed the delivery. So maybe this will be this weekends project \o/

Yeah, the cheapest 250 GTS will max out any PhysX effects. This is a crappy technology tbh and not worth any money spent on it. Get anything else that will make you happy. Unless you are a hardcore Metro 2033/Batman AA gamer that is.

On the discussion of 5970 + 480....wouldnt 2x 480 be better?

Im not discussing value...(I run a 5850) just curious as I honestly dont know the answer but would have thought someone would just get 480 in SLI if they move in those circles?

Seriously, don't you see these are only crappy animations? These effects don't affect the gameplay at all (although playing without the surrounding fog/smoke isn't as climatic as playing with it on), they look worse than whatever Havoc has to offer and try to artificially suggest us that GeForces can do more than Radeons (which ain't true). I'm not arguing the technology have had some potential in the past but it's unfortunately measured by the gameplay - playing without crappy animations or playing with them - not much of a reasonable choice really. I'm defintely not an nVidia hater but let's face it - PhysX sucks. It doesn't offer anything impressive in particular. I haven't played Metro yet but looking at this footage it is nothing to be bothered with.

@up possibly in Metro 2033, they would need a watercooling though. If I had that much money to spend everyday, I'd definitely go for 480SLI rather than 5970 and 480GTX for PhysX.
