Hello everyone
About 4 or 5 months ago I rebuilt my PC which included replacing the thermal paste (Arctic Silver 5) and I used the rice method.
Before the rebuild the max temp. I got was around 75 to 80 degrees C. It was a bit too hot for my liking which was why I replaced the paste. Now it's had plenty of time and I just tried overclocking a little (to 4.2GHz, voltage offset is on +0v and voltage according to CPU-Z was around 1.240v) and the processor was hitting between 85-90 degrees C on IBT Max. I promptly stopped the test as I'm not comfortable with this.
Is it possible that I applied too much paste? Also, with the original build I spread the AS5 using my finger with a plastic bag on to get an even thin layer.
I followed advice of everyone and used the rice method but personally I think AS5 is too thick for the rice method? Obviously many have success with this method but I'm just eliminating my options.
Cheers in advance,
Cam.
