First time Overclocking

i5 2500k
Asus p8p67-m
haf 912 plus
hyper 212 plus

Bit of a pain OC'ing with this motherboard but so far i'm at 4.2ghz (42x100) on 1.296V,
prime 95 after 1 hour temps : 54,59,62,62

voltage seems bit high so will try and reduce that bit, and this will hopefully reduce temps a bit,

i'm using hyper 212 plus cpu cooler

Is anyone else OC'ing there i5 with hyper 212 cooler?
what OC did you get up to and what temps?

Those temps are fine for a decent aftermarket air cooler and a clock of 4.2.

You hopefully will be able to bring those voltages down. I have a different setup but i'm running at 4.4GHz @ just under 1.2V on air (my ultimate aim is a respectable clock with minimum voltages). This may not be possible for you but you may have room for some considerable voltage tweaking.

It's also advisable, if you're not already doing so, to run your memory as close to 1.5V as possible with a sandy bridge setup.

Good luck with it.

Hi plec thanks for the reply :)

well with the voltage being so high already i decided to kick up the multi to 44 ,

am running prime 95 now to see if its stable if i can get 4.4ghz at 1.296V i'll be pretty happy,

temps after 30mins are showing 54,60,62,63 which is pretty much same :)

well i guess the temps are the same cause voltages are still the same hehe

it might be stable @4.6ghz with 1.296v something to test after this prime 95 finishes i guess hehe

quick update tried going upto 1.34v to get 4.5ghz but couldnt get it stable, it got into windows but failed prime95 <1minute.

4.4ghz might be my wall, gonna do some more reading up on my motherboard see if anything else i can tweak,im not going past 1.34v

if 4.4ghz is my max i try and get it stable on lower voltage

guess overclocking my gtx460 is next after ive finished with the cpu :P

I'm sure you've got more in that chip but you wont miss a few hundered MHz.

I opted for a repsectable clock coupled with the lowest voltage i could get - i'm fairly confident i can get my vCore in the 1.18's with a little more tinkering.

Good luck with it.
