Hi Guys

Just looking for some advice regarding my Hyper V host i am looking to setup. It will be running on Server 2012 and i plan to run a Server 2012 file server VM and a Windows 7 VM which will host my Plex server. Just not to sure on how to go about setting up the storage. The Hyper V host will be installed on an SSD and i have two 2TB WD Reds which have all my media on (They are pooled together with stalebit drive pool currently)

I am going to be better to install Stable bit on the Hyper V host and keep all my media storage there and just create shares that the Plex Server can point at? The VHDs for my VM's will also have to be stored on the same drives i guess as well unless i throw in a separate hard drive for that.

Would perhaps placing all the media inside a large VHD on a virtual file server instead be a better option again sharing out the VHD to the plex server?

Just not sure whether to have the media reside on the actual hyper v host itself or not?

Cheers

Hi there,

I run a very similar setup using a micro server. I don't think there is really a use case for running plex on a Windows 7 VM if you already have Server 2012. I run my micro server as a hyper-v host with 4 3TB disks in a storage pool with the host and VM OS's running off an SSD. I then run plex from within a server 2012 VM and keep all the media inside a dynamic VHD on a virtual disk in the storage pool.

Hope this helps
B
