Hyper-V, the best way to save VM's.

I have a VM running using Hyper-V on a Windows 11 Pro computer. The VM instance is also using Windows 11 Pro.

Can anyone explain the best way to back up the VM? There is an export option in the Hyper-V manager, am I correct in thinking the file it saves is my back-up in the event of my VM instance becoming corrupt or lost?

Just ensure the VM is off and copy the VHD/VHDX. You can take a base copy, and then use the snapshot feature in Hyper-V for changes. If you want to backup again, commit the snapshots (if you want) and copy again.
