Before I chuck them in the bin and buy a new set I just want to make sure I have not missed anything.

I noticed while paying Project Cars and Dirt Rally that there was no pit crew or co driver instructions, all other sound seemed OK so I've spent ages looking at game settings etc. I plug in a cheap known good headset and all is fine. If I do a 5.1 surround test the center channel and bass does not work through the headset. I've also noticed they do not have as much bass as I remember and they seem crackly. I tried the PC2 demo and just thought it was the game that was buggy but now I'm pretty sure its the headset.

The headset is 18 months old with not much use as I only use it in VR. Ive checked and wiggled the jack plug, taken the speaker drivers out and no obvious faults. I've also plugged the headset into my laptop and I get the same issue of no center speaker. Gutted as its been a good headset.

It's stereo headset so any lack of sound from fault in headset itself would be all or nothing:
Whole that side would be silent.

I assume you meant Cloud II with that generic USB dongle, whose failure could indeed cause missing channels.
So try connecting it directly with Windows Playback settings at 2.0/stereo.
Likely there would be no missing sounds.
That bundled USB dongle was some generic El Cheapo anyway so proper sound card would give better sound.

As above, the dongle is probably knackered, not the headset.

Try it straight into you motherboard. You can buy other dongles for relatively cheap, like the Creative SoundBlaster PLAY3 for about £20.
