Would they be adequate or would I get something considerably better for £50-£70?

Will be used with a FIIO X1.

If I can use them for both PC and music player use, that would have course save some money but not if it comes at the expense of sound if spending another ££50-£70 will get something much better.

Thanks.

You're not going to get anything that will sound much better at the price.

The Clouds are based on the well respected Takstar Pro80 headphones, which sell for the same sort of price anyway.

The Cloud II's are excellent. I much prefer them to the HD650's I used to have.
If you are plugging them in directly (rather than via their USB converter) you need a decently strong headphone output, but it looks like the FIIO X1 has that.

Personally, the USB soundcard included is very weak in my opinion.

I read the Cloud II was good when used direct to soundcard.

I tried them directly to the headphone output on my Z5500 and they sounded poor BUT the Z5500 has a poor headphone output anyway but as you say Safetytrousers, it likely needs more power to reach their full potential.

I will try on my Xonar DG.

Am I right in thinking the Cloud II and Cloud I are the same? The specs look identical?

If getting another pair, I might get the Cloud I as easier to connect to PC. Stupid 4 pole 3.5mm plug.

Only differences are a slightly better microphone for the II, I believe and the USB adaptor.

I will be very surprised if the DG doesn't do better, as it's amp has more power compared to the Z5500 headphone output and likely the USB adaptor too.

Why dont you buy cheaper clouds core. You only get headset with (leather earpads) +2m extension cable. The best thing is you can order them new from Electronics maplin in store for £35 :D Hope this helps. You save quiet a bit if budget is a concern

Are they the same drivers? The specs are identical.

Also, I think they are discontinued?

Many say the Mic on the Cloud II over the Cloud is better but the specs seem identical?
