So, I've received notice that Hyperoptic is coming later this year, becoming available for residence to order for their fibre service. So we're either getting FTTB or potentially FTTP. Assuming we do get FTTP instead of FTTB, is it possible to switch to BT or another provider for FTTP options later down the line using the same line? Or is the fibre line into the house keyed for Hyperoptic only?

We currently have a copper line coming in for BT and only getting FTTC 80/20 and the BT service forces a reset every so often. And I have doubts Openreach will reach us with full FTTP until many years later given the location I'm at. So 500mb up/down or even 1g up/down is very tempting for not that much more than what I'm paying for now the FTTC 80/20 (£40 24 month offer at BT vs £47 12 month offer at Hyperoptic 1g, or £37 12 month offer for 500mb at Hyperoptic).

I believe Hyperoptic supply their own cable, independent of BT.

Hyperoptic are great though! I was impressed with their service when I used them :)

I can't account for situations where Hyperoptic get bought out by another company or whatever, but as it stands now having Hyperoptic installed means that you've only gained the option of having Hyperoptic as your ISP. If you get Openreach or CityFibre FTTP at a later date then that will open up more ISP options.

Ahhh, OK. I get it now. It's not like the copper phone line where another companys service can be used on it. The fibre optic cable coming in will be tied specifically to Hyperoptic. And when BT FTTP (finally) heads around, they'll need to fit their fibre line in too then? So I have two fibre lines coming in then? Got it.

Just need to find the best line routes for them to take inside the house then. Unfortunately the front door and hallway isn't ideal. Just wondering how far they're willing to move the line in to a more helpful point in the house now as supposedly it's not something they want to do if they can help it.

Hyperoptic are good, but watch out if you want to make changes to your package, they sign you up for another year. Unless your on the 30 day rolling service.
