Hyperoptic Installation Process?

Hi guys,

I'm in the process of buying a flat (paperwork going through) and all the flats recently had hyperoptic installed "to the door". The flat is quite large and I want the router to be all the way on the other side where my PC will be. I've only ever lived in houses before, so getting the cable to where I wanted has been as easy as drilling through the outside wall. Not really an option 7 stories up though!

How do they rout the cables through your flat to where you want it and would it leave any sort of damage etc? The flat has only just been fully touched up to look brand new again, so I really want to avoid making a mess of it! I guess they could have an external cable pinned to the walls, but would that just look unsightly running through the whole flat?

Thanks

If it's a new build/refurb then Hyperoptic will have run copper to an outlet. If you wanted to place a router somewhere else then I would imagine they clip a Cat6 cable to the skirting board and drill through walls to get it where it needs to go.

The outlet is in the ceiling above the entrance into my flat. It seems they may have to run the cable around the skirting boards, which I'm not chuffed about really since it will result in the cable stretching my whole flat and multiple holes being drilled into the freshly painted walls.

Perhaps I will just opt to have the router by my front door. I'm planning on getting the nighthawk, so it shouldn't have range issues. It's a shame to be using WIFI though.

Thanks.

Sounds like the ceilings in the communal areas came down at some point and Hyperoptic put the cabling in then.

You might get away with running D-Line trunking either where the walls join the ceiling, or down by the skirting, without it looking too bad. Look for the quarter round stuff.

I have an almost identical situation to you. Mine is a new build with a full Hyper contract, so I have a port wired to the living room "hub" along with the aerial connections etc.

I have my Nighthawk set up there with a Cat 6 cable running along all of the skirting to my desk where I have an ethernet splitter set up. I went for lazy/quick routing along the skirting and just dropped it down and under any doors it had to pass.

I guess its up to you, but I really don't find the cable that noticeable.
