Hi, I'm signing up for a hyperoptic (500mb?) plan soon and will be setting it up in a 3 story house. I'll likely receive a zyxel EX3301, and will presumably need their mesh package for an additional £5 a month.

Alternatively, I have an ASUS RT-AX56U AX1800, which has fairly poor range by itself. I could, however, purchase an ASUS AX6000 TUF for ~£120 (amazon.de) and set these up in mesh. Over 2 years the price would be the same, but I would keep the router.

Any thoughts for which would be better? Note - I won't be gaming with these or using ethernet, I just want good wifi range for WFH/video calls.

I have this router with Voneus. I will say it's surprisingly good in regards to WIFI 6 signal. My Previous Zen fritz box needed wifi extenders in our 3 bed 2 story house (Brick and block party walls) I had to have extenders for reaching outside, back of the house and upstairs (back of house)
With the Zyxel I don't need any of that. It reaches into the garden and all round the house. I was honestly surprised. The router is in the same spot as the old one also.
Maybe wait till you get it and see how it goes. Also you can buy the mesh repeaters from online. I looked and was going to buy one but didn't bother in the end.
