Hi,

Recently renewed my insurance and switched companies for a better rate, History has taught me to log into my old insurers website and grab a copy of the renewal quote before the policy ends as it stated the amount of NCB I have.

Now here's the thing, my new insurer sent me an email and a letter saying they could not obtain details of my NCB from my old insurer and that if I couldn't provide them, they would adjust the price of my policy (presumably to zero NCB) and possibly cancel the cover altogether.

This wasn't an issue as I simply emailed the renewal notice over and that was that, however I imagine I'd be in a right pickle if I didn't have that document, and at best would be paying much more for my cover as a result.

Not sure if its my new company just being lazy or the old one being obstructive, but if this happens, is there any recourse, or do you just have to suck up the extra cost? (you wouldn't have a lot of choice if you want to remain legal) it does seem with a lot of aspects around car insurance that the consumer can suffer at the whim of the insurance company.

I just contacted my last insurance company and asked them to send a letter out confirming my NCB. The present insurance company was happy with that.

Yes that could have also worked, however the letter from the new company said I basically had 7 days to get the confirmation to them, which I thought was a bit harsh, especially if the old company dragged its feet providing the confirmation!
