im getting bad stuttering on bf3 and ive been reading its down to the hyperthreading on the 2600k.

is it safe to disable it?

will it effect my overclock?

cheers...

It won't affect your overclock, if anything you'll be able to overclock higher without it.

Whether it will help stuttering in BF3 I have no idea?

Tom's Hardware seems to think hyper threading has a slight negative hit on Bf3..

Interesting, I'm guessing it's because it's spreading everything to 8 threads, so 2 threads needs to share resources, where as 4 threads would be more beneficial as each thread can have a dedicated core working on it. Maybe they should have a patch to fix this?

There should be a setting in your bios under CPU settings.

found it and disabled it cheers.

What's your full system spec? It could be your graphics card holding you back?

i7 [email protected] 8gb ram and gtx 580 SLI.

needs a patch defo.

ive disabled it and its better but its still slightly there but much more smooth...

There are no problems with hyper threading and BF3.

I have a 2600k, with hyper threading enabled and Bf3 runs flawlessley.

Hyperthreading won't make much of a difference in BF3 anyway as its CPU usage isn't that high. It's more GPU reliant.

^This, ive tried it with ht off and found no noticeable difference, bfbc2 was more cpu dependant than bf3, which is more gpu reliant.

you must be lucky with your chip then because theres loads of people out there with stuttering problems..

most seem to think its down to the hyperthreading now ive just disabled it and it has made a difference but its still slightly there.

i dont know what else it could be any ideas?

what gpu do you have mate?

ok most with the stuttering problems have 580s and 2600k like me...

Well I dont know what to say.
If there was any problem with them it would be worse with a slower card like mine.

I've said in a different thread, I must be the odd one out as I've had no problems with BF3 what so ever.

probably mate.

dont get me wrong its not unplayable its just a tad annoying but its much better now still there tho.

hopefully there will be a patch out soon for it...

5850 perhaps more of a bottleneck than CPU - as quite a bit slower than the 580

Very likely - my 6870 (overclocked) runs at 99% GPU use, while my Phenom II quad @3.4 shows about 70-80% per core. Multiplayer, anyway - single player campaign uses noticably more CPU time.
