Hyperthreading and Overclocking

Hi,
I am overclocking my 2600K and from the experimentation I've done it seems like hyperthreading stops me getting to a decent oc.

Not tested stringently but when HT is enabled I can't get even get my cpu to 4.5Ghz at 1.4V without BSOD when stress testing.

With HT turned off I can get to 4.6-4.8 at about 1.37ish (haven't checked exactly how low I can go yet).

Is it worth turning HT off- I play mainly SupCom and Oblivion (single threaded), and BF3 (multi).I don't know whether the advantage from more threads outweighs the higher clock speed (in BF3s case).

Ta!

No it isn't worth it, also you can get a multicore optimizer for SupCom :)

*EDIT*

Look up "Core Maximizer" for SupCom, also you can patch the executable to use large address handling (game can use more ram despite being 32bit).

Yeah I have the multicore optimiser for SupCom but I've heard that it doesn't make much difference- when using it myself it only seems to force SupCom to use two cores anyway so HT wouldn't help.

Will patch the exe though for the extra RAM, hadn't thought of that!

I seem (fingers crossed) to have got my system stable with HT at 4.4 (after fiddling with PLL Vcore etc) so I think that'll do, doubt another 200-300mHz will make that much difference.

Currently running at 1.365V, although according to CPU-Z this jumps to 1.404 when running PRIME. Is this ok for a 24/7 setup do you think?
