Somewhere Fabulous...
Just wanted people's opinions here. Was clocking my new system yesterday and my 920 can do 4Ghz on 1.216v with HT off and with temps after 2 1/2 hours of P95 of 61,63,64,64. Turning HT on results in a big bump in temps and the need for more volts (not sure how many mroe yet though).

So, is there any major drawback to turning HT off? I mainly game, do a bit of video encoding, bit of audio work and general browsing.

Thanks as usual for your opinions!

Having HT on will defiantly help the video and audio stuff, if the programs you use can make use of multiple threads.

How big a jump with HT on, as long as ur under 80c i would'nt worry to much. If you havn't got 2 fans on your Ultra that might helps also.

Well, I've yet to do any proper testing with it on. I got a BSOD within a min or two at stock volts, upped it to 1.25v and it seemed to be running ok but with temps topping out at about 75c. Didn't run it for more than about 15 mins though as this was after pretty much a whole day of stressing and ocing though.

I was wondering about maybe changing my cooler. My TRUE is the one I got with me Q6600 nearly 3 years ago and I just bought a mounting bracket for the new mobo, how does an older TRUE compare to a Fenrir etc. these days?

75c is'nt bad at all mate, im currently F@H (100% cpu load) with HT on at 4ghz with core temps in the high 50's low 60's but i am on custom water cooling, my volts are 1.272.

So for a 3 year old cooler 75c is'nt bad at all, your cooler will still beat the titan i think, it may be old but its a good cooler.

The only coolers id look at if u really want to replace it though i would say are these, with either 2 apache or 2 viper fans in push/pull

Thermalright Venomous X
Prolimatech Megahalems
Prolimatech Armageddon

Or if u did'nt want to spend that much this, any day of the weak i would pick that over the titan, purely as it comes with a much better fan, yeh sucky colour but hey ho lol.

Akasa AK-CCX-4002HP Venom

But honestly your temps are not that bad at all, your only gonna get mid to high 60's with those 3 i mentioned abouve with push/pull fans. so would'nt be a major drop really, for quite an outlay.
