Hypertransport 2 (am2) vs 3 (am2+)

Hypertransport 3 is better.

Hypertransport 1 ran at 1.6ghz
Hypertransport 2 ran at 2.0ghz
Hypertransport 3 ran at 2.6ghz

Basically it runs at a faster speed, and so it can send information faster to the north bridge, south bridge etc.

So there isnt much difference between 2.6 and 2.0ghz! I have alos heard that soemtimes its better to turn the hypertransport of is this true?

tbh at the moment the am2+ cpus don't use the full 2.6ghz of the ht 3 yet. they only using 1800mhz of it...

But there is not reason you'd ever turn it off, I don't even know if you can do that... Maybe you're thinking of hyperthreading in Intel cpu's which is entirely different.

Currently there not going to be any real difference between the hypertransport speeds as generally it not a bottle neck. All AMD are doing are future proofing the system so when we get round to having eight 16 speed PCI express slots the bus can cope.
