Hey All,

Has anyone here had an experience with or thought about being hypnotised to help deal with things? I am going through a bit of a tough patch in my life right now and more then anything it is affecting my sleep severely! I have sleep issues anyway as my mind is always active and it could take an hour or two to get to sleep – at the moment I am only getting about 2 maybe 3 hours of sleep in total, this has been happening for almost 2 weeks now. I am really not sure about taking sleeping pills due to things I have read and what not – but I have got a Dr’s appointment later on to get their suggestions.

Hypnotism worked quite well for a friend who had a fear of flying and I am considering having some done to help both with my sleep, and also confidence issues. I have a confident personality but not in my looks, so I tend to be quite insecure around ladies and don’t take rejection, take it very personally and don’t seem to bounce back like others around me.

Thoughts, criticisms?

Cheers

you are always in complete control.. there is no such thing as being made to do things against your will

I have read this and to be honest that is not fear or anything - it's more does it work, do you have to have some "belief" in its ability to work effectively. Can you go in with a "im not sure" attitude but still get results?

Some actual experiences and changes people made after would be interesting.

I'm sceptical on most of these sorts of things. However, even if there's not actual basis to them they can still have a noticeable benefit due to the placebo effect.

E.g. while there should be no real difference between paracetamol that's the expensive branded variety and the cheap own-brand packs (as they have the same active ingredient) studies have shown that people do feel better if they take the branded ones, just down to the belief that they will!

Problem is that as I'm a sceptic I don't get that effect from these things! So maybe it's better not to be a sceptic!

I am similar, last paracetmol i got were 38p from Somerfield, seemed to do the trick i dont buy branded.

But at the same time i am so desperate for something to change i think i would have enough belief in it for that reason that if there is a placebo side it may actually benefit me.

From what i can tell around the local area they offer free consultations, and even home visits too - so might be worth a phone call?

is this still relevant in the case of show hypnotism? people acting like chicken etc?

what about derren brown and him making people rob banks etc?

or am i just being foolish?

Supposidly its people that want to do something outrageous! The Hypnotist has to be really good at reading people and picking the right person who they think will want to do something crazy.

Same i would think with Derren Brown, he seems to be able to read people brilliantly and probably chose those likely to do it.

Well i have just been to see my Doctor and explained everything he basically said that i have moved from a low state of stress which wasnt effecting me to having everything "hit" me at once with recent issues which has moved me from stress to early stages of depression.

He said it needs to be stopped now so has given me some anti-depressents however they are the lowest dosage so act more as an anti-anxiety he said to use them before going to bed (taking 1) if problems persist to go back to him in 2 or 3 weeks and he will refer me to councelling.

I mentioned hypnosis to him, and got the expected response of; try more convential methods first, before going that route.

Still intrigues me though!

Still very interesting to me - might just get a free conseltation and see what happens, a lot of positives from this thread.
