Am I mad at wanting one?

I can get a nice 2003-2004 example for about 2k. I know the 2.7V6 only kicks out 165bhp, however test driving them they pull like a train with 183lbs of torque.

I want a cheapy coupe that is a coupe that was designed to be a coupe from the start, not a saloon/hatchback derivative.

The only other thing that I like that fits the bill is the Toyota Celica VVTi 190 sport. Test driving them they are very quick with the 190bhp 1.8 but only kick out a 133lbs of torque which you certainly feel if you are not working the engine hard all the time.

Any thoughts?

Neither is a Hyundai coupe. :p

Well that's what I thought until recently. My sister has had one for about 3 years. I must admit it is very reliable. Reading into them further they seemed to have been very well liked in most of the motoring press reviews.

Obviously when you mention Hyundai most people will switch off or turn and laugh.

Well the MPG figures are not disastrous. I am 38 years old and forgot to mention that a disability would make an automatic more desirable to me. The Toyota's were manual and I have driven both manual and automatic in Hyundai's. The performance changes very little between them.

If it doesn't absolutely have to be an automatic then you could easily get a Fiat Coupe for your £2k, based on the one I've got they're nice cars, reasonably quick in turbo form but the turning circle is only marginally better than a barge although with that said the steering itself is nicely weighted. I also happen to think they look great but appreciate that views differ on that.

Sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.

165bhp from a 2.7 V6 is poor, and also expensive pants MPG too!

Worse than Americans! :p

I've always had a bit of a soft spot for the Hyundai coupe when I see them on my road. A mate of mine got one a year or so ago and its been reliable so far. Seems like £2k can get you a 'not 10 year old' coupe then I think it is a decent enough deal as long as you like them. :)

Its the "My First Coupe" of the coupe world!

personally they look okish! not that i'd want to own one though, they would probably appeal more if they had a decent engine!

Get a 5th gen prelude, a few more years older but its going to be a better car in every other way! :)
