Hz and blu ray question

Just got a question about whether I should change the resolution when playing blu ray movies on my PC.

I've just noticed I can actually change to 24Hertz in my display settings (through HDMI). I've never noticed this before. I find that I then need to change my aspect ratio to 'CinemaZoom1' to fill the screen.

Previously I'd just watched all my blu rays thinking my screen couldn't go lower than 60hertz. Should changing the res to 24hertz give me smoother blu ray playback? I plan on trying it later.

Is this what everyone does? My screen is an LG M227WDP.

I've just viewed the flying scenes in Avatar blu ray at 24hertz and they do seem much more fluid and smooth.

Do most people set their screens to 24hz before they watch a blu ray?

Native blue-ray recording is at 24fps so switching to hdmi/24hz will give the cinema
feel; however can still experience some judder
see http://www.projectorcentral.com/judder_24p.htm
so an alternative if you have a good cpu/graphics card is to emulate what happens
on LCD tv's offering motion interpolation
see http://www.tested.com/news/how-to-enable-motion-interpolation-on-your-movie-files/329/
I had tried this as a alternative to hdmi/24hz on samsung p2270hd since the
image is blurry at (1080p) 24hz so I tried hdmi/50,60hz
(I suspect 24hz image is reduced to 1680x1050 maybe like review

Why don't producers (or whoever it is) record films at higher than 24fps now?

And if i didn't change the monitor to 24hz, what would it be playing at? Native refresh rate of the monitor? If so, wouldn't that be better? (Blu-ray drive on it's way so i'm wondering what's the best way to watch a film)

I haven't a clue. It all puzzles me. My blu ray software says my blu ray is playing at 23fps (even with monitor set at 24Hz. Thought blu ray was 24fps??). Even when my screen was at 60Hz, my blu ray software still showed the blu ray as being played at 23fps.

It may be deceiving but I'm sure things seemed smoother (blu rays) when I had my screen set to 24Hz. It probably doesn't make a difference and I'm just imagining it!

I had assumed putting display at 24hz refresh same as the blue-ray
disk would give best (minimum-judder/fluid) picture however seems
some advice on web that software players ( I have windvd ) cannot
support 24hz display correctly and are designed for 60hz
http://forum.blu-ray.com/blu-ray-pc...ultra-disable-1080p24-while-viewing-dvds.html
(http://www.reviewmaze.com/2010/06/windows-blu-ray-players-comparison.html)
to generate the 60hz they will perform 3:2 pull-down
(http://www.theprojectorpros.com/learn.php?p=theater_pulldown_deinterlacing)
some 'clever' tv's supporting 24fps can apparently recognise and reverse
this pull-down manipulation.

I do not have a standalone blue-ray player to make a reference comparison

2001 Kubric blue-ray during the space station rotation scene shows
some judder for me (windvd + p2270hd set to 24hz) but maybe I would
see same with a dedicated player.

Incidentally since most laptop displays are fixed 60hz display seems they are
intrinsically ill adapted for blue ray.
(2001 scene seems same quality on vaio laptop screen, would expect 24hz display to be better .. so either I cannot discern judder or windvd fails to drive 24hz display correctly)

... any feed-back welcome !
