Hi Guys,

I'm contemplating spending some hard earned cash on a new monitor. I have decided on the size: 27''.

What I cant decide is b/w the Dell or the Hazros.
Tell me if I get this right:
The Hazro glass panel version is susceptible to dust behind the panel: v hard to get rid if not impossible
The no glass one has got a massive ugly gap b/w the screen and the plastic surround.
Hazro customer services show loads of room for improvement. They wont refund a screen for dust behind the panel

As for the Dell, it might look less sexy (no glass panel and no gap) but you get USB ports (can be convenient from time to time)+ you get HDCP. Dell CS might be less argumentative

I want to use this screen for
70% photography...hence the wide gamut
20% bluray (wish the HZ27WC had HDCP)
10% gaming

Following the posts re the Hazros QC/QA, I have the feeling it's really russian roulette with them, and I'm no gambler.

Thanks for replies/comments/suggestions

For your points:

Not anymore, they used to be. The glass screens are generally free from dust now.
That is true, but you don't notice it during normal use.
Definitely true. However, this is understandable as they are not as large as Dell and simply couldn't afford to refund screens for 'trivial' issues.

Yes, yes and yes.

Yes, the Hazros are Russian roulette. However, you can still return it to OCUK under the distance selling act if you find any defects.

The U27 is a great screen, but, and with a big but. If you hate harsh anti glare, you will absolutely loathe the Dell. White's look sparkly, and everything appears to have some sort of 'haze' over it. A lot of people aren't bothered, but some (including me) are.

I have to agree with klaus, the WB is the version for professional work, it's a matte screen, wide gamut, adjustable and rotatable stand/screen along with using CCFL backlighting for good whites.

Hope you don't mind me jumping in rather than starting a new thread.

Would the WB do for gaming as well as photo work?

I'm just getting into photo editing and graphic design (as a hobby) but also like to game with BC2 and a few MMOs.

I would like a wide Gamut monitor as I can see myself getting heavily into the graphics side of things so might as well buy for the future. I also don't really want a separate monitor for gaming so hoping the WB might be the best of both in one?

Cheers

I'm not sure how the WB would be for gaming, I've not seen a review for the WB with gaming to test the ghosting.

I'm sure it'll be around the same as the WA/D though when it comes to that.

Is there anti-glare on the non-glass Hazro and, if so, how does it compare to the Dell?

I'm trying to decide between the same three as the OP - it's not easy! The DSR fall back does help the dust/glass situation thouh - I assume that the dust problem occurs as a manufacturing 'defect' rather than random dust accumulating over time?

No anti glare - just a glossy coating without the glass in front.

Yeah, I don't see dust getting in once it's been sealed.

If you can stand the antiglare on the dell, then get it. Personally i dont like spending 600quid on a screen to look at it through tracing paper

I've used a 2001FP for years so I'm used to the Dell anti glare. You only really notice it with whites which look a little grainy.

Its a lot lighter on their older screens. Plus it stands out a lot more on 1440p screens that are larger.

I had a 2209wa a few years back, that was a fantastic monitor. I never noticed and anti-glare on that screen (but then it was 5" smaller and only 1050p
