if the price is not a worry, would you get an i5-2500k or an i7-2600k?

So I recently found a system which has a 10£ difference, nearly the same price but the i7 has 8gb ram whilst the i5 has 16gb ram.
Which one should I get? Both have graphic drivers of nvidia gtx 560 ti, 750w psu.
I've heard people not sure about getting i7-2600k because of its price and there's not really much difference to it other than hyper threading.
So what do you guys think about this?

Thanks,
Fonz Aye!

I was in a smiliar situation about 2 months ago, as I could not decide between a i5 or i7, I was going to get a i7 as I had the money for one. But as I use my PC for gaming, I was talked out of getting a i7 due to very few games using hyper threading.

So I would ask what are you going to use the PC for? If it's for gaming get a i5 and upgrade that gtx 560 to a better GPU.

The price is around 650 which is a comfortable price.

Hello woody, this PC will be mainly used for gaming; and maybe some programming.
Which PC did you buy (i5 or i7?) and how are you finding it?

I bought the i5 in the end, but you can check my signture under my posts for my full system spec ;)

I find my i5 very good compared to my old Q9550 which was overclocked to 3.4GHz. If this is a gaming PC then I would spend the money on a better GPU, not that the gtx 560 ti is rubbish, just that you could get a better GPU with the money you save buying a i5.

I already had a 6970 and a SSD, so I bought a better cpu cooler and BF3 with the spare money.

Was in the same situation a few weeks ago betweek and ended up with the i7 as I rarely play games and do a lot more multimedia work, hyperthreading was well worth it!

Hello woody,
I am afraid that I am not able to stretch my budget further more than what I've got at the moment which is just right for one of the system. I'm not a heavy gamer, but maybe when I get my hands on a few more £££; I will be replacing some of the parts.

Hello EG, good to hear that you are liking your i7; I will be mainly using this for gaming. Maybe, I might come across to multimedia when I move to my second year at college.

Will the i5 be a better pick than the i7?
I have a few weeks to make my mind up.

Hello woody,

Thank you for opinion; I've looked around the net and asked the same question and there have been mixed opinions. I'll soon make my mind up, thanks very much.

I've seen audio benchmarks that show a 2600k @ 4.7 can run faster than a 980x @ 4GHz, these sandybridge chips have a lot of power!

Also a 3960K @ 4.5Ghz is around 25% faster than both of those chips at overclocked speeds. This is not too much of an improvement, 2600k or 2700K are the best choices right now.
