I've just brought an Acer laptop to use at work and as I'll be using it for about 10 hours a night I will only ever use it while connected to the mains.

Would I be better to remove the battery and keep it somewhere safe in case I do need it in the future or will it not cause any harm to the battery if I leave it permanently plugged in because I won't actually be drawing any power from it?

The only drawback to removing the battery I can see and why I'm asking is that it is part of the base of the laptop itself so by removing it I will be leaving a big hole in the base of the laptop and I'm not sure if that's unwise because of dust etc.

It is best to power cycle the battery if you can, just once a week should do..

Here's what HP recommend..
