When are the new 45nm chips due? I want to get new hardware, but I know new far better chips are round the corner!

Any dates, benchmarks(reliable)?

THANKS

The trick is that the 45nm chips appear to do 4GHz on not much juice and being cooled with air. Good luck doing that on a Kentsfield.

A big "however" is that they don't seem to offer much of a difference in gaming performance terms over a standard 3GHz Kentsfield. Or Athlon 64, tbh.

sure they'll run a bit faster than a kentsfield but until software catches up, there's not that much difference really especially for gaming.

still 3mths away also.

I am in the same boat... ie, wanting to build a new computer to replace my old rig (check my sig!) but with the 45nm chips coming out I will wait a few more months.

Even when they are finally released expect the prices to be jacked up for a few months. If you want to build a PC now and have the funds you might as well go ahead and do it now. The CPUs by Intel available now are very good and priced quite well.
