I am allowed to do this... right?

News servers ( for a good one anyways, my isp's free one removes files after 3 days grrr) = costs
Private torrent site = free

Free>Pay
Therefore Torrents>Usenet :p

I pay $25 for 120Gb of downloads (usually lasts me 6 months or so as I don't download too much). Costs for other things included a one off payment for the download client (about $10) and then for the site I get my .nzb's for I share an account with a friend which he pays.

Maxed out connection guaranteed > Rely on seeders

Therefore Usenet > Torrents :p

:D

I use a good private torrent site, I have downloaded 700gb in the past year or so for free, maxing out my connection on pretty much all the downloads

So hence imo torrents are better. You just need a good private site which is hard to get into, and I don't mean rubbish like demonoid.
You payed for the download client :D ? I just downloaded one and I use a good site/app for NZB's too, it's just that my isp's newsserver is rubbish else I'd use it more often, my previous isp's news server was quite good but I only got 300kb/sec out of it, much less than from torrents.

Davenport Lyons is the name of the copyright ambulance chasers trying to make a name for themselves.

They were hired by Atari for a while, then Atari decided to drop them for "undisclosed reasons".
This was probably after an elderly couple were sent a letter for dowloading a copy of a "computer game", even though neither of them knew what one was.

This is the same Davenport Lyons who sent a letter to an 80 year old lady (I beleive) accusing her of downloading "Army ***kers", a gay porn film.

They are going after individuals with regards to this stuff, mainly focusing on the people who originally share the content (make it available by copying the disc and uploading the torrent file). The BPI are also working with the major ISPs in the UK, on an "education campaign". When they find people downloading crappy pop music tracks, they inform the ISP (by IP lookup) then send the ISP an IP address, a time stamp and which track the user was downloading. The ISP when looking in the DHCP logs and send the customer a strongly worded letter, much like Hans Brix does. If you are caught again, they send you another strongly worded letter with the date that they sent you the last strongly worded letter. If you are caught again, they send you yet another strognly worded letter with the two dates that they last sent strongly worded letters. If they catch you again... well.. you get the idea.

In short -> Only download, and do not upload. Music, TV and films are ok(ish) but games are starting to get too dangerous with the likes of DL around. Use newsgroups to download stuff from.

Oddly enough I was in the same situation a couple of days ago, can't find (too lazy to find) my AOE2 CD so I just looked up a torrent and had it within a few minutes, probably less time then it would take to find the CD and I now don't need a CD in the drive. Handy.

Not to condone piracy or anything like that >.>

I then proceeded to lose the next 5 hours of my life to it when I really ought to be studying for my 4th year finals! argh.

Considering how the mods have been cracking down on this sort of discussion lately, I hope that the more brazen downloaders in this thread at least get warnings...

(I'm not talking about the OP here)

I was wondering about that as well, people could at least try to hide it

How come, we aren't linking to warez or anything or helping people do it, we are doing nothing against the rules in the FAQ.

No links or requests for "warez"
Providing or asking for information regarding "warez", "gamez" or any other software protected by copyright is forbidden. This includes discussion of 'chipped' or modified games consoles.

Nobody is providing information where to download age of empires 2...

As for adding to the OP, if you think you don't want to download: AOE collectors edition ( aoe1+exp, aoe2+exp on 1 dvd) is 5 euros usually here at various retailers so should be in the uk for 3 or 4 quid...

You have purchased a licence, dont see the problem with it. I am sure no one will care but there is always a small chance you could be caught. Would be ironic if you did lol
